What Does an ESA Inspection Check For?

What the inspector is actually verifying

An ESA inspection isn't a formality, it's a real technical check against the Ontario Electrical Safety Code. The inspector is confirming that what got installed matches what was permitted, and that it's genuinely safe.

• ✓ Wire sizing, that conductor gauge is correctly matched to the breaker rating and expected load on each circuit.
• ✓ Grounding and bonding, that the system is properly grounded and bonded to code, a common failure point in older installations.
• ✓ Panel labeling, that every breaker is clearly and accurately labeled for what it controls.
• ✓ Box fill and clearances, that panels and junction boxes aren't overfilled, and that required working clearance in front of the panel is maintained.
• ✓ Workmanship, that connections are secure, wiring is properly supported, and nothing is a fire or shock hazard.

What happens if something fails

If an inspector flags an issue, it simply needs to be corrected and re-inspected, it's not a penalty, it's the system working as intended. We build our installs to pass on the first visit, which is part of why we walk through the load calculation and permit process carefully before work even begins.
